The Conquest of Lemuria
Deities in this campaign are a little different from the PHB. Mechanically, they function the same, but rather than otherworldly beings, they have physical incarnations. Some embody a creature that can talk and interact with others, often dwelling in a temple where they are served by their minions, others reside within an icon of some kind, perhaps a statue or tree bound to a landmark or feature like a hill or river.
Deities themselves seem somewhat powerless, requiring their followers to protect them and act out their interests, but the powers they can channel through their followers can be fierce indeed. More often than not a rival god will prefer to have it’s followers capture their foes, and put them on display as a humiliation. Perhaps this allows them to use their prisoner’s power themselves, or perhaps it is just prideful demonstration to attract more followers for themselves. Deities can be destroyed though, there are those who believe the gods to be the source of all misery in the world, and have dedicated themselves to their destruction.
